Predictable, but Likeable

In this third installment, Matt Daniels is being tormented by his neighbor, Bradley. He wants to dress just like him and follow him wherever he goes. He even copies Matt's answers to the science test.

Bradley buys a plastic egg that contained monster blood and leaves it at Matt's house. Matt accidentally spills a few drops on his ivory plant. The next morning the plant had tripled in size.

His little sister, Livvy, puts a few drops of monster blood into Bradley's cereal. She confesses to Matt and he starts to worry what might happen to Bradley. He is shocked when he finds out that the cereal bowls were switched. He ate the monster blood!

During his swim meet, he starts to grow just like his ivory plant. How will he stop growing?

The second story picks up in "Horrorland" from the previous book. Britney and Molly are still missing. Matt, Billy and Sheena (who is now invisible) are being chased by two MP Horrors. They want the mysterious key card that was given to Billy.

The kids hide from the Horrors in the Dr. Twisted's Science Lab. Billy opens a jar and released the monster blood.

The first story is a little predictable but at the same time it's still enjoyable. Once again the second story is only 30 pages and ends in a cliffhanger. I think the mini-stories in each book are very clever. This keeps you wanting to read more Goosebumps.

Goosebumps HorrorLand Monster Blood for Breakfast is a cool book. One day after school Bradley ordered monster blood on Matt's laptop. Monster blood is something that starts out in an egg and if you eat it, it makes you grow nine feet tall for 12 hours. The monster blood got in Matt's ivy plant and when Matt watered it, it started growing. The next morning, Matt's sister Livvy had snuck up on the monster blood and she put it in Bradley's cereal bowl. Then Bradley switched bowls with Matt and then Matt ate the monster blood! After school Matt started to grow and he could barely fit his legs in his swim suit for the swim race. When Matt jumped in the water he started to stretch out like crazy until he was eight feet tall and he was swimming like a machine. He won the swimming race! Then his swim suit tore off and then he was nine feet tall! He covered himself with some towels and ran to Bradley's house and the 12 hours were over and he shrank back to normal.

I recommend that eight-year-old boys read this book because they will understand it.

Monster blood, scary parks, changing people. These are things boys love to read about and I am for anything to get boys to read more. However, this story is very much like the other books by R.L. Stine. I don't really care for the way the story ends. Sort of leaves you hanging there. I think there are other better stories with more story to them. But hey, if it gets them to read, go for it.

Well worth the effort -- a truly original work

An earthy portrayal of Cossack life and death during the Russian Civil War. Long and complex, but worth the effort, especially for anyone with an interest in the Russian Civil War or the now-extinct Cossack way of life. The images will stay in my mind for a very long time. The details could only have been written by someone who lived the events.

The Don Flows Home to the Sea, Vol 1

After rereading "And Quiet Flows the Don" after almost 30 years, I wanted to read the follow-on story of the characters so I bought this book. It's the second of a three part narrative. It pretty much satisfied my interest in the plot and the characters. As well written as the first book.

Deceitful Product

Make no mistake, don Miguel Ruiz did NOT write this. His name is in large print on the cover, but it is not his book. I was pretty bummed when it arrived and I realized this. He's made a big difference in my life and seeing others use his name to promote their own work is slightly offputting. The book itself is repetitive and just rehashes HIS prior writing. Reads like a cashgrab under the guise of spiritual healing.

Any books written by Don Miguel Ruiz need to be read over and over again.... So I am glad I purchased this book as well, in addition to his other books, and can read it at my leisure; when comfort is needed, or inspiration, or clarification. His language is clear and uncomplicated. Each one of us will understand passages in our own time. Life is always teaching us. And Don Miguel's books can shed some light on what is going on in our life...

Does not make it easier - very poorly executed.

If you are looking for a book that will simplify your study of Nursing Pharmacology then don't buy this one. I paid over $40 for it and even though the price seems to have come down a bit I still don't think it's worth the money by a long shot. If you must, buy it used, but really, don't waste your money or time.

1) This book is over 700 pages - it will not simplify your study of Pharm. The pages are dense with text, the graphics are not useful and won't help you remember key points. Much of the information is presented in the form of bulleted lists and no effort seems to have been made to boil things down to what is important or essential.

2) I have several other books from the "Incredibly Easy" series and they were useful. They were shorter and less comprehensive than my text book, but they gave me the essential information. Also, the graphics helped you remember key points and concepts. However, this book fails on all of these counts.

3) The book has a high-level table of contents with only 15 entries. One of them, for example, is Respiratory Drugs. The chapter has numerous internal headings, for example, beta blockers, anticholinergics, etc. but you will only know that by paging through the chapter. A detailed table of contents should have been included in this book. There are no chapter outlines either. So you will have to look in the index for any topic (e.g. anticholinergics) you are interested in - where you will NOT find the page range for the section that deals with this topic. Instead you will find every page, or page range, that mentions the topic you looked up. Bottom line - it is very difficult to find the information you need about a particular class of drugs, or about a particular drug.

4) If you are looking for information on antihistamines, you will have to look in the index for that and you'll find 4 page ranges for it so you'll end up paging through these until you find the page range that actually focuses on antihistamines.

5) And if you are looking for Benadryl, for example, you won't find it in the index. Why? Because this book only believes in using generic names. Even the NCLEX will use both, for example, " The patient is taking diphenhydramine (Benadryl) and reports... " So, if you want information on a drug, unless you know the generic name already you will have to look it up in your drug guide first. Seeing drugs in the form 'generic (Trade)' gives you a larger scaffold on which to build your knowledge, which is why good Pharm texts use that form.

6) I've had this book for almost 6 months and I've gone back to it again and again hoping I would find it more useful, attempting to give it the benefit of the doubt. In the end I find this book to be a waste of my time and money and maybe this review can save you from wasting yours as well. And maybe it will motivate the publishers to re-write it for the next edition, which hopefully will be shorter and much better organized.

These books are great!

These books are great if you are a visual learner. They make the concepts easier to understand and I use as a reference for my nursing classes. I would advise any new nursing student to buy these books.

Teach your horse to learn- immediately

Am shocked at how little we are truly tapping into our horses intelligence. I am working with a six year old mare that has no idea how to :learn" and this is absolutely helping her use her brain in a way that has nothing to do with riding. My old horse learned to target in minutes! My 4 YO TB learned how to target, follow moving target and then PICK up the target in three consecutive sessions in one day! My QH WATCHED and immediately knew how to touch the target. Absolutely amazing. The steps aren't necessarily EASY but you , too, will "learn" to learn differently. I even taught my four year old granddaughter and her comment was "what game are we playing and how does Blue get a prize?" I had her do the "clicking" and she was spot on. GREAT way to teach young ones to watch for a response. Am so happy.

A MUST READ FOR HORSE OWNERS

I have just begun my journey into this amazing new world. I now have this book and her other book, The Click That Teaches: A Step-By-Step Guide in Pictures. If you are a beginner like myself, I recommend getting this one first if you can't afford to buy them both at one time. I am now trying to save money for her DVDs, The Click that Teaches series. I am not going into what this training system is about, how it works and all that mumbo jumbo, as there is plenty of that already out there on the web. I just want to say, for me, this system works. I love it and though I have hit a few walls that I have had to learn how to climb, it has been totally worth it so far. If you are not a professional trainer, you are going to have problems with any training system. But the key is whether or not there are resources for you to go to when that happens. I can't say enough about the resources for The Click that Teaches. There are the books, the DVDs, two online yahoo discussion groups, and a facebook page,all there for you when you hit a speed bump. And if you are still skeptical, you just need to realize, like I eventually did, that all you can do is try it. See if works for you and your horses. You might love it too!

Wonderful Method!

This book is straightforward while still expressing that we should each use the general methods in a way that makes sense to both us and our horse. I have started using the clicker training with both my disrespectful, curious 6-y.o. gelding and my spooky but trustworthy 13-y.o. mare. My gelding, who is extremely intelligent, took less than 10 minutes to figure out that touching his muzzle to an orange plastic cone would be followed with a "click" and a treat. My mare, after watching, took about three minutes to figure it out. I worked on them for a weekend while home from college and a week later came down, set the cone on the ground by the gate and stood with the gate between me and the horses/cone. My mare saw the clicker and treat bag and instantly bent over to touch the cone, then walked over for her treat! The horses love this because to them it feels as if they're training us! It's largely rewarding for both horse and handler and I'm looking forward to using the clicker system in further training with both horses!

Helpful insights for every career women; a must read

I have to admit, I did not have much of an expectation regarding this book. I picked it up at the bookstore to leaf through out of curiosity since I regularly watch the morning show she's on , and at times not really understanding the role she plays. What a surprise this book turned out to be!I could not put it down and ended up buying it and now buying many copies for my friends, mentorees and daughter in laws. I have spent the past 35 years , some would say very successfully, working myself up the corporate ladder, ending up as president of business units and companies. I experienced what she and her contributors have described in this book and I wish I had a book like this to read to 1) understand why I was behaving and feeling like I did, 2) why I let bosses and companies take advantage of me 3)understand better how to get for myself what I deserved....and overall to know I was not alone in this situation.
I think this book is a great resource for every woman, and especially relevant for young women starting out on the corporate ladder, especially when there is so much "fluff" is written on career advice. I admire Mika B's honesty, and her access to prominent women is really helpful in that, their stories may provide the motivation for some women to act on the advice given in this book.

Disappointing and dampening

As a regular Morning Joe watcher, I'm a fan of Mika's and was excited to see what advice her wealth of respected experience would yield for this book. I was so disappointed to find that rather than using her pages to uplift women, she basically aired and re-aired her job grievances over and over again in an ineffective and largely uninteresting read. The book was unfocused and meandering. What I'd hoped would be more of a guidebook for how to determine and get what you're worth was actually a pretty defeatist smattering of high-powered women and their complaints about how men are paid more. Mika didn't actually get to how this is changing every day or give concrete advice for how you move past what roadblocks you may face as a woman in the workplace. An unfortunate use of her visibility as a highly successful woman.

Title misleading, but good tips for women seeking better pay in corporate America

When I first saw this audiobook, I only saw the title Knowing Your Value in gigantic, capitalized, bold letters. I didn't see the small letters of the subtitle: Women, Money, and Getting What You're Worth. I was misled into thinking that the audiobook was about knowing your value in general. So I must warn readers that this audiobook is not about that, it's about how women can ask for higher pay in corporate America.

Mika Brzezinski has done her homework. She's talked to major female players such as Tina Brown, Nora Ephron, Suze Orman and Arianna Huffington. She shares their advice along with her own. The main narrative is her own story of struggling for years in broadcast journalism until she landed her co-host position on the MSNBC hit show Morning Joe. Even after that milestone, she was still overworked and underpaid. As co-host she worked fulltime on the show, but the network still made her do other freelance assignments and nightly shifts, while knowing she was a working mother and paying the other male host fourteen times her salary.

Brzezinski shares informative facts and figures. For instance, women tend to think they're lucky when they get a break, ask for less pay (they make 77 cents for every dollar a man makes) and generally operate on emotion and approval (one woman told Brzezinski how she received a pair of nice earrings and plenty of praise for her hard work instead of a raise or promotion). Women also tend to do most of the housework, take care of the family and elders even if they are the breadwinner, and shy away from demanding what they want or need. Besides giving the lay of the land on the gender wage gap issue, Brzezinski gives concrete tips and strategies for how to ask for more pay. For instance, before requesting a raise, hand your boss a single page of all your accomplishments and research what others in your position are earning.

Though the audiobook is informative on a timely topic, it falls short on many fronts. Besides the misleading title, the writing is too simplistic and the same concepts are repeated as if the speaker had momentary amnesia and forgot what she just said. The biggest trouble I had with the audiobook was its reader, Coleen Marlo, who sounded robotic and contrived, similar to a voice on a commercial, nothing like the voice of the author. Ultimately, Marlo's voice didn't come across as sincere (perhaps because her voice and the author's are so different). Since this is Brzezinski's personal story, I found that glitch to be a serious problem. I'm not sure why the author didn't narrate her own book. Brzezinski qualifies as a professional speaker herself.

Still, despite the audiobook's flaws, Brzezinski's cause of equal pay and the gender wage gap is of utmost importance, and one that working women should flag. Such women will find value in the author's words. Perhaps they should opt for her book instead.

This book is a journey to uncovering your inner personal power.
Each key offers a step along that journey accompanied by a guide to navigating the terrain of the inner and outer landscape.

The best part is this is more than a book. It is an invitation to a conversation and a community. Through the web site and social media, Jackie has created a stage for every one to step up and shine in the spotlight.

As a writer, I know the power of words and the stories we tell ourselves. The most important story, however, is the one we believe.
Not only does this book serve as a guide to creating a bolder story, it provides the actions steps necessary to channel our inner Queen. Actions speak louder than words sometimes.

This is a life changing book! And I don't ...

This is a life changing book! And I don't say that lightly. As the host of an interview style podcast, Creative Warriors, I read 2-3 books a week. Fiercely You is really an exception. While the book inspired me to think differently and be bolder, what really matters is the number of podcast listeners that have emailed me and commented on social media how Jackie has inspired them and couldn't get the book fast enough. At a time when self-acceptance and standing out to get noticed above the noise of life, hardly any book could be more timely. Don't question it. Get the book. Be Fiercely You. It's your time.

You can be fierce at any age!

Jackie Huba’s style of writing is both captivating and entertaining. This book reminded me that it’s okay to step outside of your comfort zone and to push personal boundaries. By doing these things the reward outweighs the fear. I even shared parts of the book with my 8 year old daughter. I was able to provide a fun playful way to control her self-doubt and how to shake off criticism. This book is a must read or in my case a must listen to!
