If you're building a PMO and don't know where to start

This book set and met my expectations quite well. It's clear from the start that this is a practical, step by step guide for building a PMO, not a book on theory. It methodically steps through the thought process that goes into building a well formed PMO. As I read I found I continually questioned what was necessary for a PMO in my organization. As Bill often points out, too often PMO's feel the need to overburden PM's with process or produce templates or reports because they feel they are supposed to, rather than questioning "what problem is this PMO here to solve?". The suggestions made in the book for aligning your PMO to a business need and then continuing to market the services the PMO provides in support of that need were truly refreshing. The book provides tools such as templates for capturing critical decision points, sample build schedules, etc. Those tools and templates help to encapsulate the thoughts you have while reading into inputs for the design and build process.

As the methods could be used for enhancing an existing PMO, as well as building one from scratch, I would recommend this book to any PMO Manager or Executive Sponsor of a PMO.

Poorly written, badly structured and an unacceptable amount of errors in text. Was this self-published? Message loses credibility due to poor structure. Very verbose and poorly structured with lots of repetition and errors.

About the Author
Often called the father of science fiction, British author Herbert George (H. G.) Wells literary works are notable for being some of the first titles of the science fiction genre, and include such famed titles as The Time Machine, The War of the Worlds, The Island of Doctor Moreau, and The Invisible Man. Despite being fixedly associated with science fiction, Wells wrote extensively in other genres and on many subjects, including history, society and politics, and was heavily influenced by Darwinism. His first book, Anticipations of the Reaction of Mechanical and Scientific Progress Upon Human Life and Thought, offered predictions about what technology and society would look like in the year 2000, many of which have proven accurate. Wells went on to pen over fifty novels, numerous non-fiction books, and dozens of short stories. His legacy has had an overwhelming influence on science fiction, popular culture, and even on technological and scientific innovation. Wells died in 1946 at the age of 79.

H.G. Wells struggled with the issue of "what man can make of man" in the course of his many novels and other writings. In The Undying Fire, Wells give us an updated Book of Job, focusing on the tribulations of an actual descendant of the biblical Job. The various characters from the Biblical narrative are all there, in updated (circa World War One) form. This allows Wells the freedom to move around and speak from different perspectives and to explore the issue of humanity and its relation to the deity. This is a generally optimistic treatment, but the hints of Wells' eventual frustration are evident as well. A very well-written book.

There's more to come....

Alright, well, i started reading this book a few days ago. I was going to read it for a book talk/paper thingy....but since it dwells upon relgion, and i just got a new LA teacher in the middle/near end of the school year, i went with another H.G Wells book. (this book is so captivating though, there is no way im gonna stop reading it) This means that im not finished with it...but i want to encourage anyone who stumbles across this book to pick it up. (i'll do a much better review when im done with the book, never fear)
Alright, so like i said, this book is based upon religion. At first i was cautious at buying this...because it does deal with the christian god, and i myself follow no religion. And personally, i didnt want to get stuck reading a bunch of stuff that i have already deemed irrelevant and end up wasting my money. Nothing of the sorts has happened, and let me tell you why.
1) i had faith in Wells. I wouldnt call myself a huge science fiction fan and i certainly do not take to most book well. The style in which he writes is just....breath taking, i love it, if thats a strong enough word.
2) I decided to buy this book, because i do believe Wells wasnt a 100% christian. He believed in the christian god, but he had his own viewpoints, which i very much wanted to see.
3) the convos had in the story are....truly insightful. Many a times have the same thoughts run through my head, have i argued with myself, and only to return emptyhanded. No matter which side you take on the story, the arguements are supported to the fullest. Its like sitting down to a meal that feeds your eternal hunger. Not much in this world can satisfy that hunger.
4)When i started reading this, i tried to keep an open mind...just because i dont believe in a god does not mean there is nothing worthwhile in this book. If people never review their beliefs and try to understand the other viewpoint, they are just as ignorant as the next.
4) alright, i know i really didnt do well in this review, but please, if the thoughts of life have ever trickled through your mind, grab this book: i can assure you that regrets you'll have none, i know i didnt.
and i'll leave off with a quote (which was very hard to choose...theres so many of them....i write down page numbers as i read, just so i can go back and reread some of them...)
"It is a commonplace of pietistic works that natural things are perfect things, and that the whole world of life, if it were not for the sinfulness of man, would be perfect. Paley, you will remember, Sir Eliphaz, in his 'Evidences of Christianity,' for which we have both suffered, declares that this earth is manifestly made for the happiness of the sentient beings living thereon. But i ask you to consider for a little and dispassionately, whether life through all its stages, up to and including man, is not rather a scheme of uneasiness, imperfect satisfaction, and positive miseries...."
okay, heres what Job is saying right before he says that.....i like it so much, i have to add it, heh.
"...I have thought of many things that men in their days of prosperity are apt to dismiss from their minds; and i am no longer sure of the goodness of the world without us or in the plan of Fate. Perhaps it is only in us, within our hearts that the light of God flickers- and flickers insecurely. here we had thought a God, somehow akin to ourselves, ruled the universe, it may be there is nothing but black emptiness and a coldness worse than cruelty."

Did you read any H.G Wells books growing up ? IF you enjoyed the War of the Worlds, Time Machine or the Invisible Man, then get ready for another classic.
Job suffered pain and sickness, the death of his sons and daughters, everything he had was lost. Ever try to console anyone with troubles bigger then your own ? Ever try to find the answers for lifes problems ? Ever wondered what life is about or your purpose or destiny ?
God has a plan for all of us, only most don't care to hear that and choose not to believe. It is the result of our own choices and decisions that create the situations we are in. Some find out and others will resist and never find out.

A Modern Classic

I saw a production of The Drawer Boy at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago, Illinois starring John Mahoney (of Frasier fame), Frank Galati, and Johnny Galecki. The script is beautifully crafted, with a subtle and skillful coloring. The simple, truthful insights it provides into friendships with all their complexities are touching. I'd highly recommend this play to read, or better yet, watch.

Superb Guide to the Male Chastity Lifestyle

Excellent book on the male chastity lifestyle from the female Keyholder's point of view. Georgia has many great suggestions for tease and denial techniques and how male chastity can be incorporated into a variety of other power shift activities. She also has great advice for new Keyholders just being introduced to the idea of male chastity and is always right on the money in describing what men think and what they really want from this. In fact, her insights into the male psyche are uncanny in their accuracy. One thing that many women new to the subject can't quite get their head wrapped around is why men would want to do this. Georgia answers that question in great detail. The last section of the book is a checklist for new Keyholders that provides an excellent, concise summary of issues that both parties should resolve before undertaking the lifestyle. For those new Keyholders, I would recommend reading the checklist first, then the book and then the checklist again. If you buy only one book on male chastity, this should be the one.

It's really written for women who are reluctant to be a keyholder. Kinda like trying to convince them to do it. I didn't need convincing! I just wanted some tips on how to do it well. It did provide some good tips and insight.

A taste of esotericism

July 2014: Since writing many book reviews of the past, much has changed, I have discovered much more. I have come to see and have had exposed many of the deceptions and errors associated with Gnosticism, this even after becoming a Gnostic priest. My faith in Christ has been my anchor and I press on with him who shed his blood for me. I am tempted to delete many of my reviews, as I have already done; time will tell.

Actually, I'm more inclined to give this book a rating a little below 4 stars. This book has 97 pages, copyright 1969. What you get from this book will depend on where you are at, spiritually speaking. I personally did not get a hell of a lot out of this book and got a shock when I remembered how much I payed. It does however have some gems of esoteric wisdom and perhaps these gems might pay dividends at some future time.

The book goes into some detail as to how the bible has been misinterpreted and that it should be read for its greater spiritual esoteric truths. There are a good amount of esoteric truths that have been crossed linked with bible verses. While on the aspect of Christianity, the author goes to some length as to how truth has been distorted to blind the masses.

There are lots of topics covered in this book, too jumbled for my liking though. I liked the pictures but would have liked the pictures to be more in sink with what was written. Most of the images don't even come with explanations, it's as though they are inserted to try and give the book more authenticity.

What did I get out of reading this book? I recall insights into the thymus gland and its link to ageing. The effects of pollution on the sinuses, and the link of the sinuses to the spiritual work. It also alludes to secret esoteric truths of an alchemic nature. I'm not sure if I agree with all of the author's views on the afterlife, but it was for me, very positive nonetheless.

On the whole I did not mind reading this book, especially as I read it in a very short span of time. On the other hand, if I had the money to spend again, I might choose differently.

Love this book

I wanted to steal this book from my local library but resisted. Happily it was available through Amazon. L. A. Fuertes is an inspiration to any artist whose muse is nature and in particular birds. His passion and dedication motivate me to peer as deeply into the subject and the whole space that surrounds it. Audubon was given the accolades but the recognition truly belonged to Fuertes. His murals still grace the walls of the Museum of Natural History in New York City.

Beautiful Illustrations

I love this book for the beautiful artwork of birds. Many of the plates are in color, and many are in black and white.

The biography of this wonderful artist, Louis Agaxxiz Fuertes is also very interesting.
Overall, this is a wonderful book with interesting biography, beautiful pages filled with his art of both birds, other animals, maps, and poems, along with some photographs of the artist.

Very nicely compiled.

Rainbow Carrots and Chard
 
Taste the rainbow: Carrots come in an array of beautiful colors. For this striking side dish, we blanched a variety of colors just until tender and bright, then tossed them with a lemon vinaigrette and the color-coordinated stems of rainbow chard.
 
SERVES 4
 
1 pound small carrots, trimmed and scrubbed
Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
1 bunch rainbow Swiss chard, stems trimmed (leaves reserved for another use)
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, and ½ lemon, thinly sliced into rounds
1 teaspoon sugar
¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil
Fresh mint leaves, for serving
 
1. Prepare a large ice-water bath. Cook carrots in a pot of generously salted boiling water until crisp-tender, about 7 minutes. Transfer to ice bath until cool, then remove with a spider and pat dry.

2. Cook chard stems in boiling water until crisp-tender, about 4 minutes. Transfer to ice bath, drain, and pat dry.

3. Whisk together lemon juice, and sugar in a small bowl; season with salt and pepper. Add oil in a slow, steady stream, whisking until combined.

4. Combine carrots, chard, and lemon rounds in a large bowl. Toss with some dressing, then transfer to a platter. Top with mint and serve.
