One of the best english version of Sun Zi's art of war.

This is one of the best books around that translates Sun Zi's art of war without much rooms for confusion.

Probably the only flaw in this book is the numerous inclusion of different chinese characters that attempts to suggest what a chinese character can relate to. This may be quite a handful of fluff for people who only seeks to know Sun Zi's text without wanting to revise on chinese characters.

The book includes and examines Sun Zi's (close to) orignal text line by line. There is a reason for this and it is due to the nature of the chinese characters.

English readers should be able to appreciate Sun Zi's concepts due the concise phrases used to describe the original lines. In certain instances, the author also make some references to modern day (conflict) situations so as relate Sun Zi's concept.

Throughout the book, numerous cross references are made with different chapters. It is a pleasant option for readers to cross link or recap stuffs in certain chapters if they wish to.

At the end of every chapter, there is a summary. The summary is a section that recaps the main points brought up in that chapter laced with more of the author's experienced views or comments. The summary is also not limited to one individual chapter. Certain relevant points from other chapters (like the actual total number of terrain types mentioned by Sun Zi) is summed up by the author for our convenience.

I am very impressed with this book, which seems like the best translation imaginable because it goes into detail about the potential contextual meanings of each individual chinese character. OR you can just scan through the grey boxes highlighting the basic translation for a much quicker read. I feel like I am gleaning a lot more data than someone reading a lesser translation might and even find (through the proferred analytics) occasional (rare) places where I disagree and gain further insight on alternate interpretations that would not be available had the author not gone into such detail to explain the particular reasons for his translation. Totally 100% worth the price difference over other translations. Has been extremely valuable to me in understanding and rebuffing attacks.

Get it for the map, not the "guide"!

I can't really understand the other reviews praising this map and guide. The map is a good one, yes. But the "guide" part is so highly opinionated that if you don't "groove" in the same track as the author, it's of no use. There is NOT a Thai phrase guide as indicated by another reviewer, only "Hello" and "Thanks"! There are also no monetary amounts (in any currency) attached to the pricing guide for restaurants (just a number of "$" with silly expressions like "You call this a bill" and "I got the last one"). What's expensive, or cheap, to one traveler might not be to another depending on the meaning of the symbols. Buy it for the map, but not for the guide!

This map is Groovy!

Great overview map of Bangkok. Shows the routes of the Skytrain and subways which should cover most of your traveling needs when supplemented with taxis and Tuk-tuks. During rush hour traffic you can walk faster than the taxis and Tuk-tuks in major areas. Great information on places to sleep, eat, drink and shop. Great advise for the first time visitor. Much better than the maps in all the other tour books. Also the map is laminated so it won't start tearing apart after folding it several times. The only negative is that the map is not updated every year. Some of the information is out of date.

Nice map, but still some room for improvement

the map is laminated (waterproof) and gives you the major tourist areas. I'd like to see these stick out more from the background because I needed to search for them. I like to find them without a tourist guide. Luckily I know Bangkok. If I didn't know Bangkok would be harder to find the tourist spots. It's a good map and maybe the best on Bangkok but still room for improvement. I looked it over for a few hours.

Probably the best book out there

Solid. Probably the best book out there.

It won't get super detailed and can sometimes be too simple. Probably M3/M4 or early residency level.

Probably not as good as Pocket Med but better than the other pocket books from this series (as a note, pocket primary care is also very good and covers PC complaints better than this book). This is pure EM.

Excellent book though. I'm being critical here - it's probably the best EM book for the levels I talked about. It's all bullets so you kind of need to know what you're reading about to make sense of it. It's not a primary learning source. It's to jog your memory. Bullets.

Helpful for PA Emergency Medicine Rotation

This was an excellent reference for my Emergency Medicine rotation. I was able to quickly get the information I needed based on the chief complaint including important historical information, differential diagnosis, and recommended labs/imaging. There is also a small section on pediatric emergencies and common chief complaints which was helpful since I have limited experience with pediatrics.

An Amazon Best Book of November 2016: Last year’s Reacher book, Make Me, ended on a minor medical cliffhanger which I, for one, was looking forward to seeing resolved this Fall. But author Lee Child isn’t giving up the goods so easily. Instead of picking up where that book left off, he takes Reacher back in time to 1996. Still in the Army, Reacher is coming off a medal-earning career triumph when he is sent back to school. His three-man class (Reacher, a CIA guy and an FBI agent) however, is a front for a secret mission: figure out the plot behind a message intercepted in Germany which reads “the American wants 100 million dollars.” The good news for fans is that all the familiar elements show up in Night School: the words “Reacher says nothing” appear at least half a dozen times, and as usual, Reacher combines mechanical precision and brute strength to beat up bad guys with a degree of violence falling somewhere between Bruce Lee and a backhoe. Best of all, fan-favorite Sergeant Frances Neagley makes a welcome reappearance, riding shotgun with Reacher as he hunts for his quarry. Is the plot as robust and impressive as our hero? Not entirely, but readers will barely notice. Lee Child's new book, "Night School" - a little less of the Jack Reacher we know and love, but still very good.

I’ve read all 20 Jack Reacher novels, written by Lee Child. I jumped at the chance to evaluate copy of his newest book. You don’t read 20 of anything unless you really like the characters, and “Night School” is no different. Taking place back in the mid-90’s Military Police Major Jack Reacher is reassigned to go back to school – but it isn’t what anyone thinks. It’s really just a cover to investigate a possible act of treason and terrorism. Reacher teams up with his old colleague Sgt. Frances Neagley and a group of new folks representing the FBI, CIA and the national Security Council to find out what is happening and how to stop it. The best part of a mystery is finding out what happens, so I won’t spoil anything, but Jack Reacher does his usual thing and in the end prevails in the usual Reacher fashion. The interaction between Neagley and Reacher, along with the other team members is entertaining.

That’s the good part, now the part that isn’t quite as good. I like Reacher novels because over the years he has been consistent - Jack Reacher is a really interesting character – keeps a clock in his head – always know exactly what time it is. Calculates the physics of a punch before he throws it, etc. In this book, Reacher is a bit more superficial. There is a lot less of Reacher’s thought process in this book and I felt it made the book a bit less fun to read. In fact, I can only give it “4 Stars” because it’s good – very good, in fact… but it lacks a bit of what makes Reacher novels so enjoyable.

Reacher fans will love it. Folks new to the series will enjoy it, as well. I enjoyed it. I just wish Lee Child done a bit more to keep Reacher’s character as unique and entertaining as he has done in the past.

I love Reacher novels, and own them all, but this one was flat-out boring. Normally I can't stop reading and end up losing sleep because I have to know what happens next. With "Night School" I had to force myself to keep going. I'd suggest skipping this one, or waiting till later once the price has dropped.

Lee Child, in "Night School," takes us back to 1996, when Jack Reacher was a thirty-five year old army major who had served his country for twelve years. His superior officer, General Garber, orders him to report to the Pentagon, where he is supposed to take a continuing education course. However, this is merely a ruse to keep anyone from knowing that the President of the United States wants Jack and a select group of agents from the CIA and FBI to prevent a catastrophe.

Alfred Ratcliffe, the National Security Adviser, and Raticliffe's deputy, Dr. Marion Sinclair, inform Reacher and his colleagues that an Iranian spy working for the CIA in Hamburg, Germany, has learned that Middle-Eastern extremists are about to make a major purchase from an unidentified American. We are off to the races, and fortunately, Reacher is on our side. In addition to his prowess in hand-to-hand combat (he is six feet five and two hundred and fifty pounds of muscle), Jack is a thinker who analyzes data, makes critical decisions, deploys resources as needed, and uses his uncanny instincts to excellent advantage. He recruits the intelligent and competent Sergeant Frances Neagley to assist him. Jack and company face a daunting challenge: They must identify the key players in this proposed exchange; find out where and when the sale is supposed to take place; and stop it from happening. All of this must be accomplished without alerting the public. Reacher ignores orders and sidesteps the law when it suits him. He knows that if he succeeds, he will be forgiven, but if he fails, he will be blamed and perhaps face prosecution.

"Night School" is a diverting throwback to the days before 9/11. The Internet and supercomputers had not yet changed the world. In addition to Reacher, a man who makes every word and deed count, the cast includes a German chief of detectives who has good reason to help Jack; a band of Aryan racists eager to pursue their own nefarious agenda; and the shadowy American who intends to enrich himself at the expense of countless innocent lives. This plot-driven story has the usual clichés (a race against time, highly-charged romantic encounters between Jack and his sexy lover, and a final violent confrontation), and the author makes no attempt to delineate his characters with any degree of subtlety. "Night School" may not be great literature, but Child doesn't pretend to be Tolstoy. He delivers a fast-paced novel of action-adventure that has enough thrills to entertain fans of this long-running series.

Practical Tips for Decluttering Daily

I really enjoy all of Steve's books. His style of writing is very practical and easy to understand, and the steps he lays out in his books are easy to implement. This book was no different. He and Barrie clearly lay out a practical, easy way to declutter your house in just ten minutes a day by creating a decluttering habit. There are multiple tips for establishing this habit as part of your daily routine. The second half of the book talks about how to actually declutter different areas of the house, which is very helpful if you don't know where to start or you want some practical tips on how to declutter one area, like the kitchen.

I bought the book yesterday and implemented it right away. While I was cooking dinner, I cleaned out one cupboard.

Overall, this was an easy and great read. If you want practical ideas for getting rid of clutter, I would highly recommend this book.

The book you need but don't know you need!

I guess it depends where you live... declutter/unhoarding, I think they're the same thing and I'm raising my hand to admit I'm unfortunately a hoarder, much to my husband's distress! I can totally relate to most of the "8 Reasons Why You Haven't Decluttered", in particular point's 2, 3, 7 and 8. Eek, I never thought I'd actually relate to so many when I first opened the book...

My fave chapter is the one called "How to Cash-in with Your Clutter" because it makes me feel better knowing that I'm not losing money and that those items I've held onto for so long can be of use to someone else.

I love the conversational tone of the book and the way it's split into sections, making it easy to just jump straight to the areas you need to fix immediately, without having to wade through the entire book.

Wow! A Prime Plan For Decluttering WIth a 10 Minute Habit and In-Depth Room By Room Detail! Great Book

Wow! Great title and book from the "Habit Guru" S.J. Scott and Barrie Davenport. If you have some clutter at your house like I do--you need this book, '10-Minute Declutter: The Stress-Free Habit For Simplifying Your Home'. In reading this book I found some real gems about taking care of some problem areas in my office with strategies that will make the job easily manageable in 10 minute increments. Scott and Davenport give clear and concise actionable strategies anyone can implement in short bursts of time. In this book, I learned that with daily decluttering habits, mindset and commitment any clutter can be tackled and order can be restored--here's an action plan to get it done! The authors cover 14 benefits of decluttering, why we hold on to our possessions, how to cash in on our clutter, how to form a decluttering habit in 8 steps, and creating rewards for your success, the best room to start in, 15 questions to ask as you declutter, such as 'Do I already own something similar?" Something I never thought about is covered very well in this book-How to Stage Your Declutter Habit--and supplies to buy to begin that will make you more effective. What I really love is the detail checklist for each room and how to tackle it, such as kitchens and maybe keeping your counters unclutter free zones, how to declutter the laundry room and sorting kids toys-that's a big one at our house. I'm going to start with their suggestion for the desk and using "zones" and digitizing important papers easily. Great book for anyone who has gathered a small amount of clutter all the way to the well-cluttered home. I highly recommend this new habit book from S.J Scott and Barrie Davenport to those who can't even begin to declutter but who long to make better use of their space. Grab a copy today and be inspired to get organized--and see how it changes so many things in your life including your happiness! I highly recommend this book!
